Public Statements Regarding Measure T

Yes On T
Email to friends & neighbors, June 8, 2021

Dear Tahoe Donner Friends and Neighbors,

On August 22, 2007, I stood in my Tahoe Donner backyard watching with dread as wildfire smoke billowed up from behind Donner Ridge. Our community was lucky that day; the fire breaks held.

This August, in a special mail-in election, Truckee voters will be asked to approve Measure T, a local initiative to provide a stable, dedicated source of locally-controlled funds for the Truckee Fire Protection District’s critical wildfire prevention and mitigation efforts.

The Truckee Fire Protection District will use 100% of these funds, expected to total $3.7 million annually, to set a new standard for Truckee fire prevention, protecting both our beautiful community and our cherished natural areas from wildfire’s devastation.

Unlike so many state and county programs, whose funds always seem to go to more populated areas, the funds Measure T provides will stay local and be put to work right here in our community.

Measure T will also benefit Tahoe Donner directly, fast-tracking large-scale fire prevention measures on our border to increase Tahoe Donner’s fire protection buffer. Measure T funds can also be used to support our Association’s fire prevention efforts, enabling Tahoe Donner to use its wildfire safety dollars even more effectively.

Because Measure T is so important to our community’s safety and security, the Tahoe Donner Board of Directors voted unanimously to endorse Measure T.

No matter where you are registered to vote, YOU can say YES on T today by adding your name to the endorsement list at YESonT.vote. You can help even more by forwarding this email to your Tahoe Donner friends and neighbors to encourage them to say YES on T as well!

When it comes to wildfire prevention, Tahoe Donner has long led by example. By vocally and visibly supporting the YES on T campaign, we can bring Tahoe Donner’s leadership and commitment to wildfire prevention to Truckee as a whole.

I don’t need to imagine the threat that wildfire poses for our community. I saw the smoke from my backyard, knowing the flames were just 1/2 a mile from Tahoe Donner homes. Wildfire can happen here, has happened here, and will happen here again. We must be prepared and protected.

That’s why I am asking all of you to act right now to better secure Tahoe Donner’s safety and to invest in Truckee’s future.

YES on Measure T – Protect TD
Email to friends & neighbors, August 16, 2021

Dear Tahoe Donner Friends and Neighbors,

On September 14, Truckee voters will be asked to approve Measure T, a local initiative to provide a stable, dedicated source of locally-controlled funds for the Truckee Fire Protection District’s critical wildfire prevention and mitigation efforts.

A well-respected member of Tahoe Donner’s Forestry Department once pointed to the forest just outside Tahoe Donner’s border and told me that is “the untrimmed wick” that will burn Tahoe Donner to the ground.

If a nearby wildfire grows large enough and hot enough, Tahoe Donner’s internal fire prevention efforts may not be sufficient to save our homes.

Measure T will trim the wick that threatens to burn Tahoe Donner to the ground.

Even as wildfire smoke pours into Truckee, Measure T opponents are growing more and more active on local social media. It’s time for YES on T supporters to stand up for wildfire safety.

I am asking you to speak to all of your friends and neighbors. I am asking you to volunteer with the YES on T campaign.

And, no matter where you are registered to vote, I am asking you to join me in donating money to support YES on T’s voter outreach efforts in these critical final weeks.

You can help even more by forwarding this email to your Tahoe Donner friends and neighbors to encourage them to donate to YES on T as well!

Wildfire can happen here, has happened here, and will happen here again. We must be prepared and protected. That’s why I am asking all of you to act right now to secure Tahoe Donner’s safety and to invest in Truckee’s future.

Vote YES on T on September 14!
